Frequently Asked Charter Fishing Questions & Answers
What should I bring along?
First you should be wearing the appropriate clothing to stay comfortable for the conditions that are forecasted. I would include a hat for sure to shield you from the sun and also for less glare. We would suggest bringing a pair of Polarized Sunglasses for that same reason.
It's always a good idea to bring any snacks or food that you may need & some extra drinks if you so desire. If bringing beer aluminum cans are the preferred choice vs glass. You should also bring some good sunscreen/bug repellant (preferably the rub on kind, spays can make the deck slick).
A rain jacket will be a good idea, more so in the summer months, if the weather forecast is iffy.
What is included in the price?
Your fishing charter will include your fishing licenses, bait, tackle, rods/reels, bottled water and ice. Tips are not included and usually average in the 15% to 20% range.
Should we also be bringing a cooler and ice / Can we bring alcohol?
A small cooler is okay. We try to avoid any more large coolers in the boat since they take up quite a bit of space. Alcohol is fine as long as you drink responsibly.
What size boat do you have & how many people does your boat accommodate?
Our specialized flats fishing boats can accommodate up to three people. (2 guests + the captain)
How do we go about paying for our fishing trip?
We accept checks, cash and most major credit cards including AMERICAN EXPRESS, VISA, MASTER CARD, & Discover. We will need your full Credit Card number, Expiration date, the key code on the back of the card and the zip code the card was issued in.
Do we need to pay a deposit to reserve our fish charter?
The deposit amount for all trips is $150. We accept cash, checks and most credit cards.
What happens to my deposit if I cancel my trip?
For most dates you will receive a full refund for your fishing trip if you give us seven days notice in advance. During the months of May & June (tarpon season) we require a 30 day advance notice. If you cancel after the deadline and we are able to reschedule someone for that day we will give you a full refund.
What if my fishing charter is cancelled due to bad weather?
If the weather is sketchy, trust us, we don't want to be out there either. You will receive a full refund if we have to cancel your trip due to bad weather. It's the captains decision regarding weather cancellations. (check with the captain before deciding not to show) We won't put anyone in a dangerous situation.
What if I don't show or call on the day of my trip?
Don't do that... Clients who cancel within 48 hours of the scheduled charter date or no show will be liable for the full price of the booked charter. You must understand we only have so many days to be out on the water and we could have filled that day with another client. The exception would be if we can manage to fill your original date with another client.
Where do we meet you on the day of our scheduled charter?
We will meet at the Conch Harbour Marina, Located at 951 Caroline St. (I will be right behind Dante's on the marina side boardwalk.) Be sure to call the day before your scheduled trip between 3:00 & 5:00 pm to confirm your trip and go over the details.
Will we be able to take any fish home with us?
Any legal size editable fish we catch is yours to keep. We will happily clean your fish for you when we get back to port for no additional cost.
Is there rest room facilities on board?
There are no bathroom facilities. We can usually stop at a beach or remote location to accommodate the ladies depending on how much they embrace the great outdoors. Otherwise if we are not far from the marina we can always run back.
Are morning fishing charters or afternoons better for catching fish?
Well it all depends. There are certain times of year and certain species of fish that bite better in the mornings or evenings depending on what fish species we will be targeting.
Best thing is to pick up the phone and give me a call. Your schedule should be the most important factor when choosing your charter, since we will tailor our fishing to meet the conditions.
Is there any guarantees we will catch fish?
With any kind of fishing there is nothing guaranteed especially when mother nature is involved. However, Key West offers some of the best fishing opportunities to be found anywhere in the world. There is always some sort of species that will be in season.
It's very rare not to have a good day when fishing the waters of the lower keys.
